Fire Safety Legislation

Fire Safety Legislation has changed. It’s your business… It’s your responsibility

The Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and The Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010 came into effect on 15 November 2010. The changes affect all business premises with responsibility given to business owners who have control over non-domestic, industrial, commercial, leisure, educational or healthcare premises, to take responsibility for ensuring the premises reach the required fire safety standard. Those responsible are now required by law to have a fire risk assessment in place, carried out by a competent person.

What is required by the law?

The law now requires you to have a current Fire Risk Assessment and have taken reasonable steps to:

  • Reduce the risk from fire
  • Ensure people can escape safely if there is a fire.
